Actor Chad Lowe and producer Kim Painter are grieving the death of their daughter, Fiona Hepler Lowe, who died at the age of 13.
The family confirmed Fiona’s death in a statement shared with PEOPLE on Tuesday, Sept. 29. They described her as a bright and loving child who was known for her creativity and her passion for dancing.
“We are deeply heartbroken by the loss of our beloved Fiona,” the family said.
Fiona was the second of Chad and Kim’s three daughters. Her parents also remembered the close bond she shared with her sisters, saying she was deeply loved throughout the family.
“She was the light of our lives,” the family said in their statement.
The family has asked for privacy as they cope with the loss and requested prayers during this difficult time. Their statement also included a reminder that people experiencing emotional or mental health struggles can seek help through the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
Fiona Was the Middle of Three Sisters
Chad Lowe, 58, and Kim Painter, 52, welcomed Fiona on Nov. 16, 2012. She was their second daughter, following Mabel Painter, who is 17. Their youngest daughter, Nixie Barbara, is 10.
Fiona’s love of dance was something her father had celebrated publicly. In 2025, Chad shared a birthday message marking her official entry into her teenage years, posting a photo of his daughter and encouraging her to continue dancing through life.
The affectionate message reflected the relationship he shared with Fiona and his pride in watching her grow.
Family Faced Loss of Their Home in 2025
The Lowe family had also experienced a major upheaval earlier in 2025 after their home in Pacific Palisades was destroyed in the devastating wildfire.
In February, Chad spoke publicly about returning with his daughters to see what remained of the house where they had grown up. He wrote that the experience had been extremely difficult but praised his daughters for how they had handled the aftermath.
He described helping them through the experience as his greatest responsibility and expressed how much being their father meant to him.
Fiona’s death comes after a year marked by significant challenges for the family, making the latest loss particularly painful for those closest to her.
